James Van Der Beek ‘Commits’ To Being Badass Dawson On ‘The B—- In Apt 23′
ABC show’s leading ladies talk to MTV News about how the actor hilariously sends up his ‘Dawson’s Creek’ alter ego.

NEW YORK — On Wednesday night (April 11), ABC welcomes the buzzy, dark comedy “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt 23” to their primetime schedule. MTV News hit the show’s red-carpet premiere on Tuesday and got the scoop from two of the show’s leading ladies: Dreama Walker, who plays sweet June, and Krysten Ritter, who plays bad girl Chloe.
The actresses opened up about working with co-star James Van Der Beek, explaining what it’s like to watch him mock his nice-guy “Dawson’s Creek” image. They also joked about what it’s like to make a sex tape with him … for the show, of course.
“[Van Der Beek plays a] self-centered, narcissistic version of himself,” Walker explained. “He’s so down-to-earth and very sweet and has a great sense of humor; very smart, well-spoken, just a cool dude, too polite,” she added of the real-life Van Der Beek.
“Apt 23″ follows two women, con artist Chloe and girl-next-door June, who become roommates after June finds herself suffering several misfortunes in the Big Apple. The rooomies’ relationship takes some hilarious turns as (the somewhat psychotic) Chloe makes every attempt to break June’s optimistic spirit. Of course, it also stars TV’s Dawson Leery, now all grown-up and playing an exaggerated version of himselfà la Neil Patrick Harris in the “Harold & Kumar” flicks.
While the show will probably leave viewers cracking up at the mean-spirited antics of June and Chloe, it’s Van Der Beek’s portrayal of a self-centered, egotistical version of the Beek that’s likely to have fans buzzing (his character’s wacky shenanigans include some flannel-wearing bed-hopping.)
This is hardly the first time Van Der Beek has played with his image, though. In 2011, he teamed up with Funny or Die for a weeklong series of videos that poked fun at his work on “Dawson’s Creek.” During our chat, Walker shared her favorite one-liner from the rather evil onscreen Van Der Beek.
“I love the line where he says, ‘I’m gonna play a role that I was born to play and that was me.’ And Krysten goes, ‘Aren’t you getting a little old for that?’ ” Walker said before adding that it was a relief that the actor didn’t mind poking fun at himself. “You kind of can’t be [self-conscious]. You just have to really commit to it, and that’s exactly what he did.”
And about that sex tape, which comes up later in the season. Ritter, who plays the much-discussed “B—-” on the show, dished a little bit about it and her character’s onscreen relationship with James Van Der Beek.
“He’s playing a narcissistic version of himself,” she emphasized. “It’s really fun, he’s a good sport. … It informs my character, [Chloe], so much, like, ‘Who is this girl that can only go places with a celebrity, who only will go out in public if she has James Van Der Beek on her arm?’ I think it’s a really exciting ingredient to an already special show.
“We may or may not have a sex tape,” she added.
The freshman sitcom airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET in the spot once occupied by another quirky ABC sitcom, “Happy Endings,” which wrapped up its second season last week.

James Franco Sings “Love You Like a Love Song” to Selena Gomez
From the set of Spring Breakers comes this viral video of James Franco, looking like Kevin Federline pre-obesity and lip-syncing to “Love You Like a Love Song.”
The actor was captured serenading the pop singer, his co-star in the upcoming film, while she shot a scene in the back seat of the car. Not distracting at all.
Not the highest quality video of all time, but if nothing else, it’s James Franco, in cornrows, rocking out to Selena Gomez. That’s hilarious enough:

‘Hunger Games’ Director Gary Ross Out For Sequel
‘After difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct ‘Catching Fire,’ ‘ Ross says in a statement.

A roller-coaster week for “The Hunger Games” just got even bumpier: Director Gary Ross has officially announced he won’t direct the sequel, “Catching Fire.”
The week began positively enough, with “The Hunger Games” topping the box office for the third weekend in a row, earning nearly $303 million since its debut. But that news was quickly followed Monday with a surprising Playlist story claiming Ross wouldn’t return for the movie adaptation of “Catching Fire,” a report that has now been confirmed via statements from Ross himself and “Games” studio Lionsgate.
“Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct ‘Catching Fire,’ ” Ross said in his statement. “As a writer and a director, I simply don’t have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make because of the fixed and tight production schedule.
“I loved making ‘The Hunger Games’ — it was the happiest experience of my professional life,” the statement continued. “Lionsgate was supportive of me in a manner that few directors ever experience in a franchise: they empowered me to make the film I wanted to make and backed the movie in a way that requires no explanation beyond the remarkable results. And contrary to what has been reported, negotiations with Lionsgate have not been problematic. They have also been very understanding of me through this difficult decision.”
Lionsgate echoed Ross’ disappointment in the ended “Games” partnership: “We’re very sorry that Gary Ross has chosen not to direct Catching Fire. We were really looking forward to making the movie with him. He did an incredible job on the first film and we are grateful for his work. This will not be the end of our relationship, as we consider Ross to be part of the Lionsgate family and look forward to working with him in the future.”
Ross’ heartfelt sentiments did not end with his thanks to the studio.
“I also cannot say enough about the people I worked with: Producer Nina Jacobson, a great collaborator and a true friend; the brilliant Suzanne Collins, who entrusted us with her most amazing and important story; the gifted and remarkable Jennifer Lawrence whose performance exceeded my wildest expectations, and the rest of the incredible cast, whom I am proud to call my friends,” he added in his statement. “To the fans I want to say thank you for your support your faith, your enthusiasm and your trust. Hard as this may be to understand I am trying to keep that trust with you. Thank you all. It’s been a wonderful experience.”
There will likely be a long list of directors gunning to fill Ross’ shoes, but until we receive word of an official list of names, we have a very well-thought-out list of our own we hope Lionsgate considers.

Kanye West Might Turn Up On ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’

While Kim Kardashian might be waiting to see what the future holds for her and Kanye West after going out on several dates in New York last week, fans of her E! show, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” might soon be let in on their budding romance.
According to a source, the rapper may appear on the show towards the end of the season. “Kanye is head over heels in love with Kim, and he has told her he would love to appear on the reality show if she wants him to,” the source told Radar Online about possible cameos. “Kim is a bit leery of having her man appear on camera because of the whole fiasco with her soon-to-be ex-husband, Kris Humphries, but watch for Kanye to make several appearances on the show towards the end of the season.
Viewers won’t see him featured in the first part of the season, and it won’t be all about Kanye.”
It would hardly be the first time that Yeezy showed up on a Kardashian reality show. He previously appeared on the NYC-based Shortly after he appeared on the show, Kim brushed off any rumors that anything romantic was happening between the pair, instead dubbing him the Kardashians’ “fashion muse.”
Now, however, both parties seem to be more forthcoming about what exactly is happening between them, and that includes some lyrics about Kanye’s feelings for Kim on his track “Theraflu.” The source added that “Kim feels extremely comfortable with Kanye because she feels that for the first time she is with a partner that understands what she does for a living and doesn’t scrutinize her for being in a reality show. … She also doesn’t feel like Kanye is using her, like she did with Kris.”
While the Radar source insists that Kanye will appear on the show, another source tells the Huffington Post that the series had already completed filming by the time the two began dating.
“The next season shows Kim, after her devastating split with soon-to-be ex-husband Kris Humphries, get even closer to her family,” the source said. “Kourtney is getting ready for the arrival of a baby girl, and Khloe is dealing with reports that she might not be the biological daughter of Robert Kardashian. But all 18 new episodes were shot before Kim started dating Kanye.”
Kourtney Kardashian appeared on Fox News and didn’t really have much to say about the couple’s relationship status or whether Kanye will appear on the show when it kicks off next month. “Well, he has a ‘K,’ but I think they’re friends,” she said. “They’re definitely friends and [have] been friends for years. … I don’t think so, who knows.”
